Mercury Zero Torque Steering System
Steering a tiller-steered boat can be challenging due to the constant load caused by propeller torque, making it physically demanding for the operator. As four-stroke engines are becoming more powerful, the torque load on the tiller has increased, although the engine horsepower remains relatively unchanged.
To address the difficulty of controlling these boats, a solution was needed. The ZERO TORQUE Tiller System features a hydraulic cylinder equipped with a control valve. This valve automatically opens and closes based on the operator's steering efforts, locking the steering position when no effort is applied. This innovative design enhances maneuverability, making it easier to handle powerful tiller-steered boats.
