A unique property of the new high frequency transducers is that the beamwidth is a constant 25 degree angle across the entire frequency band. Traditionally, high frequency transducers have narrow beamwidths that change with frequency. Now, in addition to providing vast bottom coverage and precise fish detection in the upper water column that can sometimes go unseen with current narrow beam transducers, Airmar's new wide beam format also creates crisper and larger return images on the display.

The Airmar R109C-LHW is a thru-hull transducer designed for integration with CHIRP-ready echosounders on sportfishing and commercial vessels. This unit provides depth and fast-response water temperature sensing. It operates across two primary CHIRP bandwidths: low frequency from 38 to 75 kHz and high frequency from 150 to 250 kHz. A key feature is its constant 25-degree beamwidth in the high-frequency range, which offers broader coverage under the boat compared to traditional narrow-beam high-frequency transducers. This design aids in detecting baitfish and game fish in shallow to mid-water depths, typically between 300 and 600 feet. The transducer incorporates 16 internal broadband ceramics and is housed in urethane, suitable for fiberglass, wood, or metal hulls on boats approximately 12 meters (40 feet) in length. It can also retrofit into existing R99 installations.
