Both sides have five roomy shelves. Kickplates prevent toe and finger pinching. Small objects can't get underneath. Island is made of Baltic birch plywood for sturdy, light-duty storage. Construction employs the dowel-pin technique, increasing already-noteworthy strength. This design leaves the thickness of the material intact where most of the stress occurs.
