These tape products dramatically increase the datastorage capacity of half-inch cartridge tape. In addition, both typesof cartridges can reside in the same physical space as 3490 cartridges,and they can also coexist in an IBM Magstar 3494 Tape Library. Highercapacity cartridges can reduce the amount of equipment as well as thenumber of cartridges and tape mounts required in the tape environment.A reduction in the number of cartridges required for backup and restoreoperations can lower operational costs throughout the enterprise.
