Product Overview

BA-130 Break Away Mount

The CMC BA-130 Breakaway Unit is designed for boaters navigating shallow, debris-heavy waters, allowing for safe passage over obstacles. It minimizes damage to both the boat and motor while providing up to 45 degrees of movement.

The BA-130 is rated for outboard motors up to a maximum of 130 H.P. The unit is mounted between the boat transom and the outboard motor. It is designed to help minimize damage to the outboard motor and boat transom only when an obstruction is encountered while running at speeds under 5 M.P.H. in the forward direction. As it encounters an obstruction, momentum causes the motor to deflect and rotate up to 45 degrees to slide over the obstruction. A drawbar spring is incorporated in the unit to help return the motor to its normal position. The drawbar spring also holds the motor at the normal position while operating in the reverse direction at low R.P.M. The BA-130 is not designed to encounter obstructions while the boat is being operated in the reverse direction.

The unit is pre-drilled with the standard B.I.A. hole pattern. For motors that have clamps with thumb screws, CMC part #13022 Transom Clamp Adapter is required. Product weight is 28 pounds (shipping weight is 33 pounds) and carries a limited 1-year warranty against defects in workmanship.

Features:

  • Rated for outboard motors up to 130 H.P. for enhanced versatility.
  • Enables safe navigation at speeds under 5 M.P.H. in the forward direction.
  • Features spring return technology to ensure the motor returns to its original position after encountering obstructions.
  • Glide safely over submerged logs or debris at low speeds
  • Offers 45 degrees of movement
  • Spring returns the motor to the standard running position
  • Standard B.I.A. hole pattern

Specifications:

  • Maximum Horse Power: 130
  • Recommended Speed: Less Than 5 mph
  • Direction: Forward Only
  • Weight: 28 lbs

WARNING: The BA-130 is rated for outboard motors up to a maximum of 130 H.P. Do not encounter obstructions at speeds over 5 M.P.H and only in the forward direction. The BA-130 is not designed to encounter obstructions while the boat is being operated in the reverse direction.

Expert Overview

The CMC BA-130 Break Away Mount, part number 13003, is a protective accessory designed for boats operating in shallow or debris-prone waters. This unit mounts between the boat transom and an outboard motor, providing a mechanism to mitigate damage when encountering submerged obstacles. It is specifically rated for outboard motors up to 130 H.P. and functions effectively at speeds under 5 M.P.H. in the forward direction.

When an obstruction is encountered, the BA-130 allows the motor to deflect and rotate up to 45 degrees, enabling it to glide over the obstacle. A drawbar spring mechanism is integrated to return the motor to its original running position post-impact. This system helps minimize potential damage to both the outboard motor and the boat transom. The unit features a standard B.I.A. hole pattern for installation and weighs 28 pounds. It is not designed for use when operating in reverse.
