16,500lb Capacity Surge Disc Brake Actuator with 2-5/16" Coupler
The Model 16.5 operates using the "surge" mechanism, which activates the trailer brakes automatically when the trailer is pushed toward the tow vehicle. This synchronization ensures that the braking of the trailer matches the tow vehicle's brakes. As the trailer pushes against the tow vehicle, the actuator telescopes and transmits the force to the master cylinder, creating the hydraulic pressure necessary for braking. A built-in, sealed shock absorber effectively controls the telescoping action against the hitch.
It is crucial to adhere to state regulations regarding trailer brakes. Brake laws typically represent minimum standards, and you may want to equip your trailer with additional brakes to align with the Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (G.V.W.R.). Please consult the owner’s manual of the tow vehicle for towing capacity and other relevant recommendations before installing this actuator or any brakes.
The Model 16.5 Actuator comes fully assembled and is ready for easy installation (compatible tongue sizes: 3â€x 4†& 3â€x 5â€, minimum 9 gauge).
